Lets start with semi-synthetic oil definition. While there is no firm industry definitions, the semi-synthetic engine oils will typically be either a blend of high-quality and lower-quality conventional mineral base oils or all high- quality (higher than conventional) base oils, mathematically from adding 1% to 99% of synthetic oil into the mineral oil. As such, it is hard to measure the performance of the semi-synthetic or advise the suitable oil change intervals.
Synthetic oil change frequency is longer than regular mineral oil change frequency. Indeed, there are longer change intervals for synthetic oils: 7,500 to 10,000 kilometres between oil changes (compared to 5,000 for mineral oil). Typically a semi synthetic engine oil would use about 10% of synthetic oil into the mineral oil, so it is hard to measure the improved performance of the semi-synthetic or advise the suitable oil change intervals comparing to conventional mineral oil.
