What Happens If You Don’t Change Your Oil On Time?

Article By: Dr Trisonic.

Engine oil is crucial towards any machinery. When you visit your local workshop for an oil change, the mechanic will recommend you to visit them every 10,000km or 6-month interval whichever came first. What will happen if you do not change your oil after the recommended duration/distance?

When you use the fair quality engine oils and you do not change oil after the recommended duration/distance, your car will still be operating normally. But two things will happen:

Dirt & grime will start to accumulate in the oil, as the engine is not 100% sealed. The dirtier the oil gets, all the dirt and grime will be carried through. This can be abrasive to internal engine parts, and decreasing the engine power efficiency and performance.

Next, the oil will break down. There are detergents, dispersants, rust-fighters and friction reducers that will wear out, so the oil won’t lubricate as well as it should. The theory is like taking a longezes when you are coughing. When you first drank the longezes, it will smoothen your throat at the start, but when the effect wears off, you will start to cough.

If the oil isn’t changed, your vehicle will start to have problems.
Some of the most common issues are that your engine temperature will rise and become too hot. This will deter the engine to run more efficiently, and as time goes on, it can cause the engine component to warp and wear out.

After all, if the engine oil is not changed, the entire engine may shut down and it have to be replaced. This repair can cost thousands of dollars.
