Is Synthetic Engine Oil Better Than Mineral Engine Oil?

Article By: Dr Trisonic.

Let’s start understanding what is found in engine oils. Engine oil is made from two main elements: base oils and performance additives.

When an engine oil is classified as full synthetic, synthetic blend and mineral oil, it refers to the type of base oil used. All these base oils begin in the ground. But that’s where the similarities end.

Synthetic oil is refined, distilled, purified and broken down into its basic molecules. This process not only removes a lot more impurities from the crude oil, but also enables individual molecules in the oil to be tailored to the demanding needs of a modern engine. These customized molecules provide higher levels of protection and performance than conventional mineral oils. While there is no official industry standard, fully synthetic engine oils typically use the highest quality base oil combination as a starting point.

Synthetic blend engine oils (or also known as semi-synthetic engine oils) will typically be either a blend of high- quality and lower- quality conventional mineral base oils or premium mineral (higher quality than conventional) base oils. It is difficult to find out the actual synthetic oil content in the synthetic blend engine oils, which could vary from 1% – 99%.

But the synthetic base oil is only half the story. The quality of the performance additives that go into the mix to create the engine oil is the most critical factor in determining the actual performance of the engine oil.

Trisonic™ UltiMach Gold 5W-40 is specially formulated with the highest quality of Performance Additives (EPT Technology) in synthetic oil to provide optimal power efficiency, outstanding performance and maximum protection to most of the modern passenger car petrol and diesel engine technologies (without particle filters). This would keep your engine running ideally, just like new.
